Back to The Office Essentials

If you follow my Instagram you’ll have seen that last weekend was my last one leaving from another week of WFH. Last week I went back to the office. For the first time since March 2020. I had the Sunday (well, Monday bank holiday) feeling, and it was a big one. And the things that were worrying me the most? That I’d forget to take back any one of my office essentials with me, even though I can hardly remember what they all were before this!

So, what I thought would be best, would be if I write them all down. That way I can have a little think about what they actually are, while sharing them with you. I won’t lie, I’ve been over-compensating probably a little bit – I’m probably buying new things I don’t really need. But my favourite part of heading back to school after the Summer holidays was the ‘essentials-buying’. I’m talking new school bag, new hair accessories to spice up the uniform – and, of course, stationary. Over the last few weeks I’ve rediscovered the grown-up joy of ‘back to work’ buying. This time it’s the office essentials, and it’s been fabulous!

Let me know, what are your office essentials?

Stationary

Arguably everyone’s favourite office essentials department – the stationary. Stationary is interesting, because not only is it truly an essential to your work day, but it’s also a part of your work life that’s really easy to personalise. Ever since being at school, you’ve taken the time to pick out your perfect pencil case, and everything that’s going in it. Perfectly to match ‘the vibe’ you’re going for. Personally, I love buying stationary, and could spend ours planning it all out to make sure I get it all right, and that it all goes together. Kind of makes me a bit of a loser – but I can’t stop myself!

Desk Accessories

Anyone working in a desk job will know the joy of making your desk your own style space. Plus, it’s so important to make sure you’re happy with your workplace. Having decorations can make a huge difference to your work-happiness. My vibe is always a couple of small plant pots (this time round, one of a bum-plant pot) and then things to help me with my storage. A tidy desk is a happy desk.

Me Accessories

If you’re the one doing the work, you deserve a treat while you’re doing it. Don’t you agree? As part of your office essentials, squeeze in some me-treats to make you look forward to your work day. You might not all agree, but I find I get so much joy from the little things. I’ve just ordered a whole bunch of pins to stick on my jacket, and I’m so excited about it. So, bring the same thinking to your work life, and make sure you fit some accessories into your office essentials.

  1. Blue Light Blocking Glasses (Chunky Style)

Office Fashion

I love a clothes shop as much as the next person, and back to the office fashion is just one of the events I love buying for. I’m quite lucky in that my office wear is quite casual, but I still like to have my work clothes separate from my weekend clothes.

  1. Blue Button Up Swing Dress
  2. Levi’s Original Trucker Denim Jacket
  3. Velvet Bee Hairband
  4. Open Front Blazer

Lunch Time

More than ever now I’ve found that I don’t want to have to go out to buy my lunch. I used to be one of those people who constantly forgot to meal-prep my lunch, and had to panic buy a meal deal. But now I don’t particularly fancy a trip to the shops, so I’ve been making a big effort so far with preparing the meals for my lunch the night before. So, this year, my lunch time accessories have become a big part of my office essentials.

For the Commute

Whether you walk, cycle, drive, or public transport your way to work, you’re going to have some getting-to-the-office essentials. My commute is usually around an hour drive, if I’m not catching the bus on any day, so I always like to make myself as comfy as possible. What are your travel essentials?

  2. House of Marley Wireless Headphones
  3. Llama Travel Mug
  4. Duffel Holdall Bag

  1. Burt’s Bee Lavender and Honey Hand Cream

Oh I wish I’d have come across this post before yesterday! I was back in the office after a year off working from home and I was all in a muddle trying to figure out what I used to take! Definitely a few bits on here that I had forgotten! Fabulous post! x

These are all great things to get. I am with you on not wanting to bring lunch. Since lockdown, I’ve cut out so much and buying lunch was one.

I can’t believe how much I spent on lunch everyday, and not even really on decent meals. And definitely not healthy!

Loved reading this! I never worked in an office but can only imagine that my desk would be filled with stationery, plants and desk accessories! Fell in love with the swing dress and gladiator sandal! Hope the return at the office was great! Thanks for sharing x

Thank you! I was the same, I’d never worked in an office before this, and I think that’s almost worse – you have a lot of catching up to do when it comes to the desk accessorising! I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂
