Barcelona by Film

Film cameras are making a comeback, in a big way

You may or may not know by now, but I’ve been to Barcelona. It was a 2021 birthday trip, bought for me Christmas 2020. And 2022 we finally made it to the land of sunshine for a weekend. We packed our bags, and headed off on a holiday of queues (I’m looking at you, Bristol airport), beaches, and park walking.

Packed in amongst my things was my so-far unused Olympus Mju Zoom ii – my film camera. I bought it after I was inspired by Love, Yossy, who shares amazing film images on her Instagram. I ordered the camera on etsy, and immediately fell in love with it. But, our Barcelona trip was my first opportunity to really try it out. After reading all the horror stories of films getting ruined in the airport x-ray machines, I decided to take the risk, and brought it on my travels.

Film photography is definitely not a cheap hobby to pick up. Film on its own can cost around £10, then to get it developed afterwards is around £13 (that’s from Snappy Snaps). So it’s important to take that into consideration if it’s a hobby you’re considering. But, if photography is something you love, it’s a great alternative for your holiday snaps. Plus, if you’re not a photography-buff and are overwhelmed by all the lingo, a point and shoot camera like mine is perfect. It does the work for you. All you have to do with mine is switch the flash off, and zoom in or out.
