Something I knew I wanted to do when I found out I was pregnant was make sure we booked a babymoon.
I’d seen a lot of mum-to-bes on Instagram booking their babymoon to relaxing resorts in sunny countries. Usually with a pool to lounge in. All-inclusive, so they could snack however much they wanted. Ours wasn’t quite like that, as much as that would’ve been lovely. Ours was already planned for us, and booking it ended up being more stressful than we’d hoped. We found ourselves in a position where we weren’t totally sure that it would be doable for me. So we were almost booking blindly.
Ideally, we’d have headed abroad around May time, when there was still three months until our due date. It also wouldn’t be peak summer anywhere. But we’d been invited to a wedding in Spain, so we already had the date chosen for us, and it was June. It also meant the location was picked out – Malaga. Luckily, Malaga is lovely, and somewhere we’d been before, which was one less worry at the back of my mind.

Malaga is in Andalucia in Spain, which is the South. It’s a region that we’ve visited a lot, and we love it. Malaga was a stop on our eight-day road trip of Andalucia a few years ago, when we traveled around four of the beautiful cities. Obviously, this time was going to be a little bit different for us. But with a few changes made to the trip it was designed perfectly for me in my bump phase.
Last time we stayed in a hotel along the beach and enjoyed the twenty-minute walk into the town center every day. But this time, we opted for an apartment just a ten-minute walk away from the hustle and bustle. It meant I could pop back for a rest if I got tired, and after anything we did home was only ten minutes away. We also had our own kitchen if I didn’t feel up to going out for food (which was a lifesaver for lunchtimes), air-con, and a private balcony. Having the outdoor space was so important this time around. If I was too tired to go out at least I wasn’t stuck in a hotel room. And that did happen a few times.
When we had a family meal booked for El Pimpi we rushed there without realising how much I was scrambling around. It wasn’t until we were sat down that I realised just how hot I’d gotten. I ended up with a nose bleed (something that’s been quite common for me anyway throughout my pregnancy). Luckily a Spanish Tortilla and a cool glass of lemonade soon sorted me out.

To say it was hot would be an understatement. I’ve since spoken to mums who’ve said pregnant hot is a different kind of hot. Where you feel like you’re heating up on the inside massively as well. And I felt that. But again, Malaga was such a perfect place for this. The several times the heat caught me out when I made the walk into the town there were always a bars, cafes, and restaurants open to take a break in.
What I will say is that, unlike UK beaches, a trip to the beach in Malaga was quite nice. There’s a slight breeze coming off of the sea, but also they have palm trees there. So you always have some shade to sit in.
What was lovely about this holiday was that, besides the wedding, we didn’t really do anything much. Well, on the first day we went to the Botanical Gardens, then a car and fashion museum. Afterwards realised that it was probably my limit for this trip. Then after that we pretty much just wandered around the city and went out for food.
For a holiday in a bustling town, it was amazingly relaxing.
