A Grapefruit Citrus Mocktail Recipe

I think I’ve found a mocktail recipe that’s as delicious as a cocktail…

I’ve not been drinking cocktails lately, as you probably could guess. I got bored of plain water pretty early on in the year, then went through a paranoid of how much sugar was in squash phase. Then gave up coffee – the three day migraine from that one was a lot. So it was just plain water for me for a lot of the first part of the year. Now, with the heat and the latter stages of pregnancy, I’m just fine with water, almost craving it.

But, looking back through my old blog posts I found this mocktail recipe, and decided to try it again for a treat one evening. And it feels as good as treating yourself to a cocktail. It’s fruity, it has a little bit of fizz to it, and it looks like a cocktail. What more could you want?

To make a Grapefruit Citrus Mocktail

(recipe makes 2 mocktails)

4oz grapefruit juice
Small bottle of Sprite or 7up
Wedge of lime
Wedge of lemon
Sprig of thyme and a grapefruit slice for decoration

To start, share the grapefruit juice into two glasses evenly. Then squeeze the lemon wedge and lime wedge into the glass too. You can make the wedges as big or small as you like, depending on how sour you’d like the mocktail to be. I like my mocktails quite sour, so I might be generous with the slicing of the wedges.

At this point, add ice cubes if you’d like a chilled mocktail, then top up with the Sprite or 7up. Again, you can tailor this if you prefer it to be more or less fizzy, but one small bottle should be enough to split between the two glasses.

To garnish, add the sprig of thyme and the grapefruit slice on the side of the glass to decorate, and you’re all ready to serve!
