I don’t know about you, but I used to love a visit to a cocktail bar. In my job I’ve tried and tested a lot of cocktail making classes, but going to a bar and trying ones that professionals had made totally beats it. I always thought a cocktail bar would be the ideal venue for a date. Unfortunately, this Valentine’s day that’s not to be, but we can try recreating it at home. And how better to do it in style than with his and hers cocktails?
I tried out mocktail recipes a while ago, but for this post I’m adding alcohol. Valentine’s day is a celebration after all! These cocktails use vodka as the spirit, but if you’d rather switch that out for gin please do. They also use rosemary that’ll taste strong, and grapefruit as the flavouring. If you do want to go ahead and make these cocktails into mocktails, just remove the alcohol and add some lemonade or tonic.
0.1 Lady Greyhound Cocktail
This one is the harder of the two, as it requires a couple more ingredients. It also involves making a syrup, but don’t be overwhelmed by this. Making a syrup is surprisingly simple. The recipe will make a lot, a lot of syrup, but you can just pop this aside or in the fridge for another day.
You will need:
200g sugar – I used granulated
4 tbsp fresh rosemary leaves
470ml water
180ml grapefruit juice
1 or 2 shots of vodka
Method:
First you need to make the sugar syrup. Put the sugar, fresh rosemary, and the water in a saucepan, and start heating on a medium heat. Keep an eye on it and stir occassionally, until the sugar is completely dissolved. Take the pan off the heat, and leave aside for 20 minutes. After that, strain the syrup into a bowl to cool, removing all the rosemary leaves.
When the syrup is cooled to room temperature you can start on the rest of it. In a cocktail shaker, put in the grapefruit juice, vodka, and 1-2 shots of the syrup. Shake well so it’s all mixed together, and serve with ice and a garnish of grapefruit if you want to.
0.2 Greyhound Cocktail
This is a super simple cocktail recipe, it barely needs a recipe! It’s two ingredients, and a bit of garnish if you want to make it look nice.
You will need:
2 shots of vodka
120ml grapefruit juice
Method:
Pour the grapefruit and vodka into a long glass, and mix well with a stirrer. Add ice, and garnish with a lemon or lime wedge. All done!
These look absolutely delicious! We really miss proper cocktail nights! I think I have most of the ingredients for these at home so I may have to celebrate with cocktails this weekend x x
