It just means it’s limited to home activities! I already did the whole ‘it’s going to be a strange Valentine’s Day’ in my gift guide last week. So, for today’s post, rather than go down that route, we’re just going to get creative with it! I’m talking date night ideas, but without leaving the home. These ideas are great because they combine being romantic with possible gift-related ideas.

So get creative! And if you try any of these ideas I’d love to know how you got on in the comments! Or, if you have another idea that I’ve missed off the list, give it a share.

0.1 Romantic meal for two – Takeaway

Now is a great time to support your local takeaways and restaurants, and treat yourself. Order yourselves a great takeaway or romantic restaurant meal for home, and don’t touch the oven. Maybe you have a favourite restaurant that’s offering takeaways right now, or want to try something completely different.

0.2 At-home cocktail bar

I’ve got just the thing for this coming on Friday – His and Her cocktails, so keep an eye out for that! Add an extra side to it by both buying ‘mystery’ ingredients, and then surprising each other with them on the night. See what you can make with them.

0.3 Scavenger hunt

A treasure hunt, but through the house. Set each other little clues that the other has to find around the house, and maybe even throw in some challenges or puzzles to solve. Have an end location or clue with a prize. This is one that’s really easy to personalise, and easy to make romantic if you want to.

0.4 Romantic meal for two – DIY

Cooking together can be so bonding. Plan yourselves the courses you want to prepare, and make them together. Maybe one of you does one course, and the other does another. You can prepare the whole meal together, or surprise each other with your choices.

0.5 Treat yourself to a fondue

I love a chocolate fondue. Make a selection plate of marshmallows, strawberries and other fruits, pretzels, and whatever else you fancy, and a big bar of chocolate to melt. Don’t forget the cocktail sticks or skewers, and dip away.

0.6 Have a movie night

Maybe you’ve got a favourite movie to watch, or have a new list to work through. To go with this idea, why not gift your other half the 100 movies to watch poster, and then get started straight away?

0.7 Or even make a home cinema

Take it a step further and make yourself a home cinema. Buy yourselves a projector tools and set up a screen, using a sheet. Buy some popcorn, make the sofa all cosy, and settle in for a movie night. If it’s a nice night you could even take it outside, and stargaze while you movie watch.

0.8 Have a themed night

If you have a theme that means a lot to you as a couple, theme the night around it. Maybe it’s a destination from a holiday you enjoyed, or a date-theme you went on. You can theme the food, clothes, and activities around the theme.

0.9 Have a couples pamper night

You can’t go to a spa right now, but you can create an at-home pamper setup. Get yourselves some face masks, maybe take a bath, and maybe even give each other massages.

0.10 Have a sing-a-long night

You can go the full hog and get something to host karaoke on, or just Youtube it. Have a sing-a-long and a dance, have a couple of drinks, and you’re set.

0.11 Spend the night planning your next adventure

We can’t jet off for a romantic getaway right now, but we can start planning one. Spend your Valentine’s evening putting together your next trip. Maybe make a mood board for it, or start booking things up if you’re ready.

0.12 Host a multi-date on Zoom with other couples

If you’re not really a couple that get overly romantic on Valentine’s Day, maybe host a couples night with others. There’s loads of ideas you can incorporate to this. Maybe have a games night, or a cocktail making virtual session. Share your Valentine’s Day.

0.13 Board game night

An oldie, but a goodie. You can go down the traditional board games route, mix it up with some modern games – or even find yourself some V-day appropriate ones.

0.14 Get crafty

Spend the night making something or doing something creative. Make a photo scrapbook together, or paint together. If you’ve seen the pottery scene in ghost – say no more, wink. This is either something that’s right up your street, or not at all on the horizon.

0.15 Recreate your dream date night at home

Get together beforehand a plan out your dream date night. Maybe it’s recreating a date that you’ve already had, or maybe it’s something completely new. This one might take some planning, so make sure you’re all ready to go!

0.16 Have a couples fitness night

If you’re a fitness couple, maybe this is something that you’ll enjoy. Check out fitness videos and workouts, and spend time doing them together. You can take a look at my Weekly Workout Schedule for some example workouts I love.

0.17 Have a camping night in the garden

Get yourself a little pop up tent, sleeping bags, and romantic camping memorabilia. Stargazing on Valentine’s Night, I’m not sure it gets more romantic than that! Or, if the weather’s not so great, take it inside!

0.18 Have a fort night in the living room

Remember when you were kids and used to make a living room tent out of chairs and a bed sheet. Bring it back, but make it uber romantic! Use candles -safely of course – to act as the camp fire. Switch the main lights off, and use cushions to make it super cosy.

0.19 Go to a virtual concert

Check for any live events that may be going on, but if there’s nothing that takes your fancy, find one of your favourites online. You can usually find full concerts or at least big exerts from concerts on Youtube, or maybe even try something like Glastonbury highlights. You could even throw this one into the theme category, and really go for it.

0.20 Recreate your first date night at home

This was what we did this for our first month anniversary. We ordered takeaway from the first restaurant we’d been to, and kind of had a lockdown version of our original date. The Italian takeaway was ordered, laid the table with a candle, played Italian music on the Alexa. Recreate your first date, but with a lockdown twist, and get creative.
