Chelsea Flower Show is rapidly approaching, and for another year I won’t be attending. It’s a dream of mine to one day go. The beautiful gardens, the inspiration to take home, and the chance you might see gardening royalty.
But while I wait for my chance to attend, I’ll be watching from home. One of the most exciting pre-moments for me is planning what I would wear. So, even though I’m not going this year, here’s some outfit inspiration for anyone who is and hasn’t picked their wear yet.
Blues

Blue ditsy dress | Blue floral dress | Denim Dress | Blue Striped Dress
My blue inspiration is very calm and ‘little house on the prairie’ vibes. Puffy sleeves and shaped waists take away the need for busy patterns. The blues also show that denim options can still work without becoming dressed down. I’d he wearing any of these with a blazer over my shoulders and adding a rattan sun hat. I’d even be tempted to go for double denim with the denim dress.
Greens

Shirt Dress | Corset Dress | Off-Shoulder Dress | Sundress
Quite a varying colour, this ranges anything from busy green foliage patterns to pastel shades. The green dresses I chose have a touch of whimsy, floaty materials, and would look lovely with a white blazer or cardigan over the top.
Pinks

Red and Pink Floral | Button Up Dress | Pale Pink Dress | Red and Pink Striped Dress
Pink offers the option of bright and contrasting, or subdued and girly. I found a combination of both options, my main draw for the first option being pink combined with red. These would look great with a simple jacket, even just a denim jacket or waterproof of some sort. While the paler pinks would simplify a more patterned jacket.
Florals

Hydrangea Dress | Abercrombie and Fitch Dress | Off-Shoulder Dress | Garden Print Dress
Florals are a classic choice for Chelsea Flower Show. While this direction gives a lot of options to be creative, this is where I’d lean towards more muted styles, not to clash with the gardens. White background dresses offer a lot of choice from all different styles and price ranges, and accessorising really depends on what you go for. As a lot of florals tend to lean toward the more formal look, for Chelsea Flower Show I’d be tempted more towards dressing it down. I’d got for rattan or wicker accessories, just to drag it away from a wedding guest look.
Oranges

Patchwork Dress | Block Orange Dress | Busy Floral Dress | Yellow Dress
An option that is usually underestimated, but beautiful for a sunny day at Chelsea Flower Show. You can go for orange hues or full blown block orange. With orange patterned dresses I love the combination with pinks or teals, and I’d be matching my accessories with these colours rather than the main orange.
Gingham

Green Gingham Dress | Navy Gingham Dress | Brown Gingham Dress | Blue Gingham Dress
I have a soft spot for gingham. Gingham offers a pattern that adds more interest than a simple block colour, and an option for pattern away from floral. With any gingham dress I’d be looking at the accessories to pull it away from Little House on the Prairie vibes.
Darks

Dark Ditsy Dress | Polka Dot Dress | Brown Dress | Navy Button Up
If you’re not a colour person when it comes to your wardrobe there’s no reason to feel the pressure for Chelsea flower show. There’s a lot of darker dress options out there. You can find dark floral patterns or go for a block dark colour. I’d then be teaming it with a brighter or lighter jacket of some sort, and gold coloured simple jewellery.
Jumpsuits

Khaki Jumpsuit | Louise Thompson Jumpsuit | Blue Jumpsuit | Gingham Jumpsuit
Finally, if you’re not a dress person that’s okay. Jumpsuits and co-ords are a fine choice . You can still follow any of the styles that come with dresses, and tailor how dressed up or down you want to go for.
Let me know which is your favourite!
