I’ll be honest from the start of this post, I’m not amazing at self-motivation or finding my own fitness routines. I used to be quite a fitness-obsessed person, when I was a rower, but I found it easy when I had a team to exercise with and a coach to tell me what to do. And training myself for a half marathon was one thing to focus on, but when I don’t have a focus in particular it’s really hard to work out what to put my effort into.
Now I’m on my own I’m still finding my feet a little, so don’t yet have an extensive list of sources, but these are the few bits and bobs that I’ve been using in the comfort of my own living room.
Instagram
Whitney Simmons
Even looking at photos of Whitney gives me the motivation to get working out. She features hardcore workouts with amazing instructions in the description, and labels each activity with the body part that’s going to feel the burn today. Her workouts are Instagram-goals!
Alice Liveing
Women’s Health Magazine’s poster girl, Alice is an amazing PT. Her Instagram features workouts for anyone, including super fit people, people just starting out, pregnant ladies, and even has a workout on there for the elderly.
YouTube
Pamela Reif
This morning’s workout, Pamela’s videos are timed, so you know how many more seconds of pain you have left, and feature a background of pumped up music to work to.
Natacha Oceane
Natacha mixes her workout routine videos with your usual vlogs, like an apartment tour, which is one of my guilty pleasures. Great inspo, because you can do one of her workouts and then know there might be a restful video to follow.
Sarah Day
I use a Core and Ab Pilates workout from Sarah Day’s channel, and it’s great for anyone who’s either not done pilates before or, like me, has had a bit of a break from it. For this video in particular, she has an instructor leading the class, and she offers tips and advice to make sure you’re doing it properly.
MadFit
MadFit is great for general workouts, but in particular, offers song challenges and workouts, which are perfect if you need a little top up workout that’s only one song long.
Apps
Gymondo
There is a premium option, but I use the free option, which gives you a new workout every Wednesday and Friday. There’s lot’s of workout options on there, each one with a work-along with video, led by motivational, upbeat instructors.
MapMyRun
Great if you’re using your daily outing for a run or a bike ride. This app will log your miles, your speed, and averages out the two together at the end. Plus, you can connect with your friends who also have the app to see what they’re up to, and also does competitions, which motivates me so much to get out and about.
Like I said, not a very extensive list yet, but just a few insights on what I’ve been using. And not to mention, any advice on great workouts sources while we’re in isolation are much appreciated!
