Talk to any girlfriend, wife, sister, mother, ‘insert female role here’, and they’ll probably tell you that the men on the gift lists are the hardest to buy for. Every year I ask the men in my life what they want, and they always reply with practical gifts that I have no fun in shopping for. For day four of the Giftmas Guides we’re looking at different and obvious gifts you can buy for the ‘hims’ you need to, and hopefully there’s something on the list for every need. I already touched on this once before in my Father’s Day Gift Guide, but this is an updated list.

I’ll start with a gift for the coffee lovers, with this Cafetiere Gift Set, or, if it’s more their cup of tea, why not a Gin Gift Set. These books are really for children, but they make a great gift for a dad from a little one if they do one on a hero. The books include Muhammed Ali and Stephen Hawkins. If they’re into cooking, treat them to the Haynes Men’s Cooking Manual. For boyfriends and partners, a Personalised Star Map with dates on it from when you met or went on your first date is a really sweet idea. For smaller, top-up or stocking gifts, go with something like a Snowman Christmas Tie or a pair of Zebra Odd Socks, or organise a Post-Christmas Day Out if you want something really special. If they’re into fitness and sports, a little gift that can make a difference is this Badger Sore Muscle Rub. If you’re not sure on their hobbies or interests, Hotel Chocolat offer some Christmas themed chocolate selections to choose from. For something the whole family can try on Christmas evening, treat them to this Kazoo Music Game or go one step further with the Ridley’s Poker Set. Then, to finish off Christmas, crack out the Carry On Ultimate Movie Collection box set, with a Dig and Share Hamper to munch on.

Other ideas for the men in your life…

  • Mercedes Remote Control Car – whether you’re buying for a young man or a young-at-heart man, you can’t go wrong with a remote control car, and this Mercedes one is a little more on the grown up side.

  • Epic Drives of the World – following on the car theme, if they enjoy travelling and driving this is a great book from Lonely Planets. They also offer other themes, like running and hiking.

  • St Christopher Pendant – for the traveller, a St Christopher pendant is a great gift. It means safe travel wherever they go, whether they want to wear it as a necklace or keep it as a keepsake in their wallet.

  • Walking the Americas, Levison Wood – or, if they love travelling but can’t get away right now, give them a book to fulfil their wanderlust. This one is one of my best recommendations.

  • Name a Star Gift Tin – for the guy who doesn’t want anything material, name a star for them and give them a gift tin to go with it.

  • Beard-Dazzled Kit – this is a great stocking-filler or top-up gift. But only if they have or can grow a beard, otherwise it may rub the wrong way…

  • The Great LIFE Photographers – This appeared on my previous list, but I can’t recommend this book enough for any photography loving folk.

  • Kindle Paperwhite – give this to any bookworm, especially if you know they love reading but you don’t know exactly what they like to read about.

xx
