The Lock Down Diaries: And a Quick Note on Things

Before I go onto my usual weekly post, I just want to pop a quick message. Obviously there’s a lot happening with protests and campaigns to support Black Lives Matter, and it’s touched a lot of different people in a lot of different ways. I ummed and wondered a lot about doing a post on it, but the ideas that I tossed around in my head either felt that I wasn’t educated enough yet to write well, it just wasn’t doing it justice, or that there are others who can write these things better than I can right now. It’s not something to half-arse or make guesses on, it’s something that needs to be done with full knowledge and understanding, and I’m not there just yet.

I feel heartbroken that this has happened again, guilty for not appreciating the scale of things sooner, and desperate to learn more and help where I can. At the moment I’m keeping up to date with people on social media that have a better understanding of the situation than I do, reading literature on it, and keeping an eye out wherever I can. I already feel that I’ve learned so much, but I’m desperate to learn more.

It was something that felt wrong for me to write about at the moment, but I felt I couldn’t completely ignore it. If you do have views on this to share please feel free to do so in the comments or message me privately, I’m open to learning, and also learning where I make mistakes. I know that this doesn’t do it at all justice, but the work for this for me now has to be off the blog.

Watching

I finished the Assassination of Versace this week, which was a hard, but amazing watch. Any fans of American Horror Story, I really recommend you watch it. I also found myself up to date with Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, so that’s ten seasons in just over ten weeks. Not a proud moment when I realised I done it, but it’s a guilty pleasure I guess.

I also had a bit of a retro Meg Ryan urge, and watching When Harry Met Sally, which is one of my all time favourite films. Then I watched You’ve Got Mail, which is another classic on my favourites list. If you have an evening where you fancy a simple rom-com, I really recommend these two as options.

Doing

House hunting and planning! I’ve been thinking for a while about moving out someday, but with the lock down it’s especially made a dent on my thoughts over the last few weeks. This week I actually started making a step in the right direction by contacting a mortgage company to get advise. It was a really positive experience, and has made everything seem much more like it’s almost in reach, so it’s been an exciting week on this front.

Reading

I started reading a book called The Adventures of Goodnight and Loving at the start of the week, by an author called Leslie Thomas. It was on a recommendation from my dad, who said it’s a favourite of his. But as the week went on, I ended up downloading Why I’m No Longer Talking To White People About Race by Reni Eddo-Lodge. It was recommended to me by so many friends, and was all over social media as a great book to read to get a better understanding, so I’ve downloaded it ready to start before the end of the weekend.

I hope you’re all safe and well at the end of this weekend, and keep the messages and information sharing.

xx
