Dorset Diaries: Part One

A bit of a change of scenery for this week! Blogging during lock down has been a bit limiting and, to be honest, a new challenge – I know we’re not in the hardest situation of it all, but I mean coming up with new ideas based completely on being locked inside our houses has no doubt been a bit of a change! This week I headed out of my house and out of my town to go on a little vacay.

I mentioned in my last post that I was popping on a mini Summer holiday – my big trips that I’d planned for this year both got cancelled due to a certain global situation, so I had a little holiday lust going on. It’s not exactly as big as Austria or China, but the chance to get out of Wiltshire was exciting anyway!

We have a caravan in Weymouth, so my mum and I decided to pop there for four days to give ourselves a break from being at home. Even though we have the caravan I don’t go to Weymouth often – it’s not really my thing. But having been stuck at home for the last fifteen weeks it seemed like a good idea to get away somewhere for a few days.

Day 1 and 2 of our holiday the weather was really sunny, like July should really be. So we spent our time on the beach for most of it. Because it was during the beach and we were limited to the dog-friendly beach, it was really quiet and not at all crowded. Great for social distancing purposes, and also great for the doggos to run around and dig holes.

We had Bob with us, of course, and then his friend Honey as well. Bob used to be scared of water – he’s pretty much scared of everything – but he’s now started being okay with the sea, and even gives swimming a go – although he’s not great at it. He seems to think he needs to get his paws completely out of the water every stroke. It’s less doggy paddle, more butterfly.

Can you believe it was actually possible to squeeze a beach day into this year? Honestly, the photos a few weeks ago of the crowded beaches were enough to trigger any anxiety I might have had about social distancing, so I was so glad that our beach trip didn’t look like that! Stay tuned for part 2 of my Dorset Diaries!
