Safe Travel During Covid-19

The UK lock down is slowly starting to ease off, and travel is gradually becoming more common again. Last week I popped to our caravan in Weymouth for a few days, and while it was really nice to have a few days away, it was definitely clear that travel isn’t back to the way it was yet. And probably won’t be for a while.

After my mini-holiday I put together a few bits of advice I’d have given myself beforehand. I have to add, this is just obvious bits of advice and is in no way researched in any way. If you are travelling I really recommend doing more research on the Gov website or similar, as that’ll give you even more information on your travel plans.

Practice social distancing

When you’re walking around, or if you’re planning on sitting somewhere, keep your distance from people. And if other people aren’t, or if they’re walking down the pavement more than one person wide, just take the hit and move out of their way if you want to.

Hand sanitiser is your new travel buddy

Keep a bottle or two in your bag, and use it regularly. Whenever you touch any surfaces or finish shopping. Most shops have a bottle of sanitiser at the entrance now anyway, but it doesn’t hurt to have your own at the ready.

Face masks are a must

Try to have not one, but two if you’re away for a couple of days, or more if you can. You want to try and avoid wearing the same mask twice, and wash in between uses.

Avoid busy places

This just makes the social distancing easier. The less crowded it is, the more space you have to enjoy your holiday.

Be patient

Remember, this is new to everyone. Sometimes people forget things like social distancing, so don’t fly off the handle if someone gets a little too close. And accept that sometimes you might have to wait for someone to pass you if you have the best place for giving way.

Plan the journey

Things like food, water, toilet breaks – don’t take anything for granted before you set off. It’ll be a long day if you’re missing one of the essentials.

Enjoy yourself

There is a lot to think about, but this is your time off from being locked in your home. Make the most of it, and don’t worry or panic too much!

xx

After reading your post, I realized I don’t have to fear travel, I just have to level up some of the things we always do (use sanitizer, plan ahead, carry snacks). Thanks for sharing your experience. xo Nipa
