At least once a week I make a real effort to give myself a treat night, seeing as I have a lot of time on my hands at the moment. I’m no expert on skincare, but I’m starting to make more time to experiment with what works for me a little. And I’ve found that it’s sometimes just spending the time pampering myself that’s made the difference. Here’s my current pamper routing that I’ve been following.
While I’m still in the shower, and after I’ve washed the shampoo out of my hair, I sometimes use a hair mask to condition my hair. The one I’ve been using at the moment is Palmar’s Coconut Oil Deep Conditioning Protein Pack. You leave it in for about 15-20 minutes, and then just wash it out like normal conditioner. While I’m waiting I usually get out the shower and dry off, ready for the next bit of my pamper evening.
When I first get out the shower I use my Champneys Dry Oil spritzer on my legs. I give it a few sprays and then rub the oil in until it’s completely soaked into my skin. This is a product that I’ve had for a while, but you can find similar products like this one. While I’m on my legs, I also use my Planet Spa Foot and Elbow cream on my feet, mainly focusing on the heels which get particularly dry. Again, I’ve had this for a while, but this is a similar product.
I also get rough feeling skin on the backs of my upper arms (which I suspect is Keratosis pilaris, but that’s a big, self-diagnosed word, so don’t hold me to that), so I make sure to moisturise those as well. The cream I use for this is my big tub of Body Shop Ethiopian Green Coffee Cream (or this similar Palmer’s one). It is a little more pricey than other parts of my pamper evening, but it has such a lovely feel to it, not at all greasy, and blends into your skin really nicely.
For my face, I’ve just invested in a Jade Roller, which I’m very excited about, but still don’t feel completely sure on what I’m actually supposed to be doing with it. My current plan has been to moisturise my face before I pick up the roller. The one I’ve been using at the moment is the FCUK Bodybutter that I was given as part of a gift set, and it smells glorious. It’s not specifically a face cream, but it smells so good I have to use it somewhere. I also have quite resilient skin, but it’s definitely something to think about it you have more sensitive skin. Then, with the Jade Roller I go over my neck and face using Pinterest advice usually. There are so many Jade Rollers out there now, but I’ve linked the one I have above.
After this, my hands have had quite a lot of product on them, so I’ll wash them and start on those. I’ll spend a bit of time shaping them with a file, smoothing off the top, and just generally make them look a bit prettier. I use a cube shaped file that has a different purpose on each side, like this one.
My nails are quite weak and damaged at the moment from me constantly having overlays on them, and when the lock down started I used acetone to take them off, so they are in a bad way. At the moment I’ve been using the same nail strengthener that I’ve been using for years, which is the Sally Hansen Hard as Nails polish. I’ll usually put two or three coats on, and then maybe add a nail polish colour if I feel like it.
And once that’s all dry on my nails I like to moisturise them with hand cream, especially with all the hand washing that’s going on at the moment making my hands dry. The one I’ve currently been using is the Vaseline Intensive Care hand cream.
After that it’s just making sure the evening keeps the pamper feeling going, so I might watch a film or read a magazine, just anything to make myself feel relaxed and like I’m treating myself. Lighting a candle is a must, and wrapping up cosy under a furry blanket is optional.
