Night at Stourhead Gardens

Christmas is over, but there’s still time to squeeze in one more festive post, don’t you think? Plus, after stopping the Blogmas posts a few days early I owe you some Christmas love on the blog…

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a visit to a light show of some sort, and our choice for this year was the Stourhead Light walk. It’s one of my favourite places for a winter walk anyway, but we’d never been at night or during the holidays before, so I treated my dad to tickets for it for Christmas.

The walk was made up of different light instalments by various designers and artists, so each section had a different theme, different Christmas themed music and all. There was a light tunnel, origami cranes lit up hanging from the trees, and colourful uplighting on the National Trust buildings in the distance.

Booking an event visit at the moment is pretty touch and go – for weeks I was worried that there would be changes to the whole lockdown situation which would mean that we would have to cancel our trip. But luckily, even with any changes post-boxing day, we were still okay to go ahead. The venue was a great option as well – not only is it outdoors with lot’s of room to spread out, including little ‘dwelling’ points that you can duck into, but everyone was tending to keep their masks on – me, with my Christmas mask for added festivities.

At the end of the walk we took a break to sit down with two luxury hot chocolates, which meant hot chocolate with crumbled flake and mini marshmallows on the top. Mulled wine and hot cider was available, but – if you’ve been following my Instagram – I thought I’d give myself a break after the festive period.

I’ve loved Christmas blogging again this year, even if a blog-a-day was a little ambitious – I won’t be doing that again for a while. I hope you’ve had a lovely December whatever you’ve been up to, and as alway, stay safe and keep talking!
