Accidentally Wes Anderson

When I was flicking through the Christmas Gift Guides this year, this book appeared on – I would say – pretty much all the lists I found, or at least somewhere in amongst the festive recommendations. I even included it on one of my own. It’s called Accidentally Wes Anderson, and it’s a great find!

When I saw it online I decided to add it to my own list, and gave it to my dad as an idea of something to get for me. I spent all Christmas evening and most of Boxing Day afternoon flicking through it, looking at the bright, colourful photos, and reading the interesting stories about the destinations included.

What’s it About?

I thought it was going to be a book of photographs of unusual places, but it’s more than that. The theme is Wes Anderson aesthetic – think bright, bold colours, quirky landmarks, stark lines in the landscape, that sort of thing. Then, along with these, the book includes stories about the landscape, the stories behind the buildings, and interesting facts about the location they’re set in.

Who is Wes Anderson?

I didn’t know a lot about Wes Anderson, I won’t lie to you. I wasn’t a long-term follower of his work particularly, and if you’d told me it was ‘Wes Anderson aesthetic’ I wouldn’t have even known where to start with imagining it in my head.

His films include The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The Darjeeling Limited, and The Grand Budapest Hotel. If you Google any of these films you’ll kind of get the gist of the vibe of the book.

So, Why Should I Buy It?

I teased this a little at the start of this post, but – other than the fact that this book is fantastic – it’s a perfect little booster for anyone want some travel inspiration, or anyone in need of some wanderlust fulfilment. The whole vibe of the book is ‘going on an adventure’, and they sort everything into destination categories, so if you wake up and feel like a USA vibe, head to this chapter. If you’re feeling more Europe this evening, flick to the Europe section.

If you have this book on your coffee table, there’s no way anyone’s going to be able to come into your house and not have a flick through. It’ll entice you in with the joyful vibes it sends out, and won’t help but bring a smile to your face.

Where Can I Find Out More?

Accidentally Wes Anderson has its own website, which includes more information about the book and the project itself, as well as a few collections of the photos. You can find it here.

Where Can I Buy the Book?

You can get your hands on the book from most book-selling websites – or shops if you’re reading this post-lockdown – or directly from the Accidentally Wes Anderson website. You can find the direct link to the book here.

I’ll be honest and say I didn’t recognise the name but as soon as you said “the grand Budapest hotel” all I could picture was crazy bright and bold colours! This honestly sounds like the perfect book to get some travel inspiration!

I was the same, I only asked for it for Christmas because it looked pretty, but it’s so good! I really recommend!

This absolutely sounds like a phenomenal coffee table book. I know that I would end up flipping through the pages endlessly. It really is beautiful! I’ll have to pick it up in the near future for myself or as a gift (or both)!
